The Council for Aid to Education (CAE) is committed to helping educational institutions measure and improve learning outcomes for their students. This requires an array of tools appropriately matched to the diverse missions, goals, and purposes of each institution. CAE also maintains the nation’s premier database on fundraising outcomes at higher education institutions.
CAE believes assessment should be aligned with teaching and learning, and not hamper the unique skills educators bring to the task of cultivating critical thinkers. The defining characteristic of CAE’s Performance Tasks is measuring critical thinking and written communication skills through application to real-life problems. These are vital tools for success in academic and professional pursuits. CAE is dedicated to helping institutions measure these skills in innovative and reliable ways.
Via the Voluntary Support of Education (VSE) program, CAE provides the only tool for benchmarking fundraising in the nation’s colleges and universities. Through its web-based Data Miner application, CAE provides advancement professionals with over 300 variables related to fundraising each year. CAE maintains an archive of the results of its annual survey as well. The archive goes back to 1969. Included in the results are data from a small sample of independent precollege institutions.
