CLA+ is a performance-based assessment that is delivered completely online. Institutions manage their administrations through the CLA+ Proctor Interface, and students download a secure browser through the Student Interface. The CLA+ Proctor Interface also allows schools to view current and past test administrations, as well as selected student information. Institutions are given access to both web portals prior to the start of administration. The CLA+ Proctor Interface allows institutions to retrieve their current and past reports.
After returning a formal agreement, your institution will be assigned a CLA+ representative for support and guidance throughout CLA+ testing. Your institution’s representative will be your main point of contact during testing and will be able to answer any questions you have. Institutions receive a ‘Welcome E-mail’ several weeks before testing that provides an introduction and additional information about the upcoming testing administration.
Each administration of CLA+ has a specific testing window. The fall testing window has historically run from mid-August to mid-November, while the spring window runs from late January to mid-May. A summer testing window is also available.
Institutions participating in the annual Value-added Institutional Comparison study test 100 or more freshmen in the fall and 100 or more seniors in the spring. Assessing the critical thinking mastery level of a single class or other cohort can take place in any testing window.
An institution may choose to complete testing in a single day or over several weeks throughout the window. After an institution has achieved its intended sample, it is required to submit registrar data for the students who tested. Registrar data include information such as class level and transfer status. Reports will be available four to six weeks after registrar data submission.
