In completing this form, it may be worthwhile to consider the following questions:
What analyses are you most interested in: norm-referenced or criterion-referenced?
Generally speaking, a norm-referenced analysis means that we will compare your institution (and students) to other institutions that are participating in the CLA+. Criterion-referenced analyses mean that we will consider your institution’s (and students’) performance against a set standard. It is possible for institutions to attain both criterion- and norm-referenced analyses, depending upon when they actually assess groups of students.
Are you more interested in gaining a snapshot of your overall institutional performance, or would you like to see how various subgroups or programs perform? Do you intend to make formative use of your institution- and student-level results?
This may have some bearing on the total number of students you assess. Are there times of the year when it may be easier to recruit students to participate in the assessment? CLA+ allows for flexible testing, meaning that you may assess students at any time of the year, so long as you are aware of the limitations it may present on the types of results we can provide.
