CLA+ Institutional Reporting

The Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) is an innovative performance-based assessment that measures institutions’ contributions to their students’ critical-thinking and written-communication skills.

In fall 2013, CAE  introduced an enhanced version of the CLA—the CLA+—which:

  • allows for more flexible testing options;
  • produces scores with student-level, as well as institution-level, reliability; and
  • provides additional subscores for scientific and quantitative reasoning, critical reading and evaluation, and the ability to critique an argument.

CAE is now issuing, direct to students who meet proficient or advanced levels of mastery on the CLA+, verified digital badges which will allow them to illustrate to prospective employers that they have attained the necessary and desired skills that will set them apart as job candidates. CAE recognizes that recent college graduates in particular need to distinguish themselves from others with similar degrees and GPAs.

Sample CLA+ Institutional Report

This report represents results from a fictional college that has tested a sample of freshmen in the fall and samples of all other class levels in the spring. The metrics available to an institution are dependent on the class levels tested in a given administration.

Sample CLA+ Student Data File

This data file represents results from a fictional four-year college that has tested a sample of entering freshmen in the fall window and a sample of exiting seniors in the spring window.

This report represents results for a fictional college senior that tested in the spring 2013 window of the CLA.
